They're not allowed to ask for a vote until some cut-off time when campaigning formally commences. However, the leaflets are coming in think-and-fast as they want us to know they're there and how great they are.
the date for local election is not formally set until 30 days in advance, but there is a European Parliament election on June 7 (I think) so the local election will likely coincide with that. Expect house visits from all sorts over the next 4 months!
@karlstanley I was coincidentally looking this up earlier and I don't think the European election date has been fixed yet but will be on a date between 6 and 9 June. As we traditionally do not have weekend votes that means either 6 or 7 June.
@karlstanley @IanMoore3000 I think I heard the 7th, but can't find any confirmation. There will also be a referendum on membership of a European patent system on that day. And possibly a plebiscite on a directly elected mayor for Dublin?
It seems odd that it's for the whole of county Dublin, including the rural areas but not the urban areas that are part of the built up city environment in Leixlip and Bray
@ColmDonoghue @karlstanley @IanMoore3000 No, no decision yet. So in principle not necessarily a mayor for the whole county, they could propose just a DCC mayor, or an M50 mayor. But I don't expect that.
@raycunningham @karlstanley @IanMoore3000 There's a load of "we should have a D.E.M" bit not a lot of "what powers will this person have that we can't give councilors"
I did up my own leaflet at the last general election. Each candidate I met, I gave it to them. I plan to prepare one for each of the locals and the Euros this year.
